The Women’s Mammography Suite at ECM East has added Digital Mammography
The Women’s Mammography Suite at ECM East has expanded its health and wellness services available to women in northwest Alabama with the addition of a new Selenia™ digital mammography system by Hologic®.
Digital mammography allows ECM East to provide our patients with the highest quality of care in the prevention and early detection of breast cancer. Digital mammography allows the radiologist to view the image more closely zeroing in on suspicious or concerning areas, enabling them to make immediate decisions about additional images. The radiologist can magnify the images, increase or decrease the contrast and evaluate microcalcifications and focus on areas of concern.
Digital mammography takes less than half the time of traditional film-based exams and with the new larger plates provided by the Selenia™ system the patient has less radiation exposure. In addition, the FAST™ paddle technology accommodates the natural contour of the breast, tilting for more uniform compression and exposure and improved patient comfort.
In conjunction with the digital mammography unit, The Women Mammography Suite at ECM East is also offering Computer-Aided Detection. CAD provides a “second read” of the mammogram by a computer. This assists the radiologist in making an accurate diagnosis, like spell check in word processing. Another plus provided by the ECM East facility, your older film studies can be converted to digital images for better year-to-year comparison by our board certified radiologists.
At the Women’s Mammography Suite at ECM East, our technologists are all ARRT registered and have over 80 years of combined mammography experience. The Suite provides a waiting area just for women, as well as adjoining private dressing rooms.
