ECM and Shoals Hospitals Announce 2009 Employees of the Year

ECM And Shoals Hospitals have announced their annual Employee of the Year awards. An employee is selected each month as part of the organization’s employee recognition program. One of the twelve monthly winners is selected and recognized as the facility’s Employee of the Year. The award is announced during National Hospital Week, the second week in May. Chris Thornton, Emergency Department RN was the Shoals Hospital winner and Jane Ridgeway, Patient Care Assistant was the ECM recipient.
Ridgeway was recognized for assisting a man who came to the Emergency Department at Shoals with shortness of breath. After receiving care, Chris discovered the man was hitch hiking to Illinois to be with family at Christmas. Chris headed up a team of employees who raised money for bus fare. She also received donations for shoes, clothing and food. Med-Call Ambulance provided the patient with transportation to Athens to catch the bus.
Ridgeway was recognized for assisting the wife of a patient in the Intensive Care Unit. The wife did not drive so Ridgeway drove the family member home on numerous occasions to Center Star. One morning she was contacted by the wife at 3:00 a.m., seeking assistance and Ridgeway quickly responded. She also stayed at the hospital on her own time to visit and help care for this individual.
