Joe Roach Named Chief Executive Officer of Eliza Coffee Medical Center
Posted: July 19, 2010
Brings 20 years of hospital CEO experience to the Shoals.
Officials at RegionalCare Hospital Partners announced that Joe Roach has been named as chief executive officer of Eliza Coffee Memorial Hospital. Mr. Roach comes to ECM from Memorial Hospital of Martinsville, Va. where he has served as CEO since 1993. Mr. Roach will be at the hospital on August 2. Sonny Boggus has been serving as the interim CEO since July 1.
According to John Rutledge, president and chief operating officer for RegionalCare Hospital Partners, “We are very glad to have Joe join us as CEO at ECM. We have worked with him in the past and know that he is the right person to lead the hospital through the upcoming period of growth and expansion. In Martinsville, he very successfully led that organization through a transition much like what is happening in the Shoals. Over the past eight years, he recruited 35 physicians to that community and oversaw $25 million in investment in the facility, including a new Ambulatory Surgery Center, two new Interventional Cath Labs, and a variety of diagnostic and imaging services. He also oversaw the implementation and construction of a $60 million renovation to the hospital.”
Mr. Roach says, “My wife Cindy and I are excited about the chance to become part of the Shoals community. I have been able to meet with many physicians and spent time at the hospital and it is clear that there is a real opportunity to become a regional provider of high quality care. I look forward to working with the medical staff, hospital employees, the hospital board, and local leaders to identify the services and specialties that are important to the community.”
The candidates for the CEO position were interviewed by a group of physicians from both Florence and Muscle Shoals. Muscle Shoals Internist, Dr. Loren McCoy stated “I was extremely excited about being involved in the selection process and feel very fortunate that we were able to choose from two very qualified candidates. Mr. Roach has the experience and willingness to work with us in moving our organizations toward a bright future.”
Florence Urologist, Dr. A. L. Sago said, “Mr. Roach was selected by a group of physicians from the medical staffs of ECM and Shoals hospitals. I am very pleased with the selection and feel Mr. Roach has the credentials and expertise to move us forward toward our goal of a new hospital in the near future.”
Joe Roach began his healthcare career as a clinical pharmacist. Prior to serving as CEO at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, VA he was the CEO at Millinocket Regional Hospital in Millinocket, ME. He has an M.S. in Business from Husson College and a B.S. in Pharmacy from The University of Rhode Island. He has been active in both civic and healthcare organizations including serving as Board Chair for the Martinsville/Henry County Economic Development Board; Board Member, Harvest Foundation; Board Member, Advisory Board of American National Bank; Member of the American College of Healthcare Executives; and in the Healthcare Financial Management Association.
Joe and Cindy Roach are the parents of two adult daughters.
